Mercedes: Electric vehicles are prepared for sale worldwide

Mercedes' Vision EQXX electric vehicle has traveled 1,000 km on a single charge as the German automaker works to maximize the efficiency of its next electric vehicles.

The Vision EQXX was driven by Mercedes engineers from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and over the Arabian Desert.

The dynamic shape resisted the heat of the desert, went hundreds of kilometers on battery power over the highways, and recorded an efficiency of 13.5 km/kW.

The Vision EQXX traveled 1,000 miles on its inaugural flight in 2022 from Sindelfingen, Germany, to Cassis, France, however, its efficiency was far lower at 11.4 km per kilowatt.

The car traveled 1,200 km with an average speed of 12 km per kilowatt from Stuttgart to Silverstone later that year.

The efficiency of Tesla's long-range SUV, the Model 3, is 6 kilometers per kilowatt.

Even without the extra aero components seen in the Vision EQXX, the Tesla automobile is aerodynamic in and of itself.

With a drag coefficient of 0.17, the Mercedes is the most slick vehicle available.

To provide the smoothest possible air exit from the undercarriage, it also receives a streamlined rear section with an extra air spoiler on the underside of the rear bumper that extends outward from the body.

Mercedes used materials that are not commonly seen in commercial vehicles, such as carbon fiber-reinforced plastic, to cut weight.

The average efficiency hit 68.7 km/h, saving 120 kilometers per liter.

Mercedes claimed the air conditioning was on the entire trip, and a multi-source heat pump reduced energy loss.

The Vision EQXX includes a 100-kWh battery based on a 900-volt design.

"The Vision EQXX continues to provide valuable data for the continued development of advanced electric efficiency technologies," said Markus Schäfer, Chief Technology Officer at Mercedes. All systems work flawlessly in the desert, overcoming challenges such as temperature and dust with ease. "This is proof that electric driving is ready for global markets."

Mercedes stated that the Vision EQXX is a concept nearing production, as the business is previewing the model based on the next iteration of the MMA platform.
